The Sung Dynasty May 24 2017

Between 960 and 1280, tea ware became prominent in the land. Elegant tea sets, including teacups, were beautifully made from the finest pottery and porcelain. The Chinese were introduced to powdered Japanese tea, and the flavoring of tea became more popular. And tea became the favorite ceremonial drink during temple rituals among Zen Buddhists in Japan.

In 805, tea became a favorite drink amongst Buddhist monks. Tea seeds were officially brought from China to Japan. A Buddhist priest named Saicho and a monk named Kobo Daishi helped spread the culture of tea by growing the Chinese seeds in many Japanese temples.

In the year 780, Tea became very popular in China, and tea tax was introduced to the public. Lu Yu, the Chinese poet wrote: "Cha jing", the first book about tea. It aligned very well with Taoist beliefs for its spirituality, and detailed accounts of growing, cultivating and making tea.
